Opportunity and Outreach

Our Commitment

We are dedicated to hiring and retaining high-quality personnel while maintaining a workforce that provides equal opportunity employment. In addition, we strive to foster relationships with both suppliers and clients that share these values.

Designed to Drive Change

Founded by women and women-owned and operated, Jones Burke is built on a commitment to opportunity, empowerment, and meaningful change.

Although we are a small firm, we invest significant resources in cultivating a workplace that supports professional growth and advancement, both internally and through outreach efforts. These principles extend across all levels of the firm—from leadership and attorneys to staff and interns. Since its inception, the firm has welcomed professionals with a broad range of experiences and viewpoints, offering a flexible work environment that empowers individuals to contribute in ways that align with their strengths.

In parallel, our outreach efforts aim to expand awareness of careers in the patent field and create pathways for more professionals to thrive in this space. We believe this approach not only strengthens our firm, but also contributes to broader innovation and technological progress.

The firm’s three partners are female.

Women Owned

Women Owned Small Business

Jones Burke is a proud women-owned law firm—one of a select few in the country specializing in patent law. For over 13 years, and as one of the earliest women-owned patent boutique firms, Jones Burke has actively supported industry progress by sponsoring and participating in a wide range of speaking engagements and professional events.

We are also a proud Founder’s Circle Sponsor of Women Owned Law (WOL), an organization dedicated to empowering women entrepreneurs in the legal profession. Alongside our experience and client-centered operations, our commitment to opportunity, advancement, and leadership has played a central role in our continued success.

Our initiatives begin with recruitment. We partner with a woman- and minority-owned Recruitment Process Outsourcing (RPO) firm that focuses on identifying strong candidates from a wide range of professional backgrounds for every position at the firm.

Our initiatives start at the recruitment level, our RPO Partner is a woman and minority-owned business entrusted with targeting recruitment efforts to ensure the inclusion of diverse candidates for all positions within the firm.

Summer Intern Program

Each summer we host a summer intern program where we invite local high school students and college students to learn more about the patent law profession. In an effort to advance women in STEM, our program typically aims to include at least two women.

Supporting Opportunity and Inclusion

We are committed to maintaining a workplace that values opportunity and a broad range of perspectives. As part of this commitment, we actively seek to collaborate with other women-owned and minority-owned enterprises, including our RPO partner.

Jones Burke has proudly sponsored and participated in a variety of industry events that support professional advancement and representation, such as the Women in Law & IP Summit, the Women in IP Committee’s Networking Brunch at the Intellectual Property Owners Association’s Annual Meeting, and women’s networking events at the American Bar Association’s Annual IP Meeting. We also support organizations that champion STEM education and career development for women and other historically underrepresented groups, including Doorways for Women and Families and The National GEM Consortium.

In response to national and global calls for justice and legal equity, Jones Burke’s leadership recognizes the legal profession’s unique role in supporting equal protection under the law. We have contributed to initiatives aligned with these principles, including donations to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, the Neighborhood Legal Services Program of DC, and the American Bar Association’s Award Celebration honoring Marian Wright Edelman.

Our commitment to supporting a wide spectrum of experiences includes recognizing the impact of factors such as economic background, mental and physical health, and access to resources. In this spirit, we have organized initiatives to promote mental wellness during Mental Health Awareness Month, formed a team for the American Heart Association’s Lawyers Have Heart Annual Race, and donated to organizations like Food for Others and NAMI. Firmwide engagement in community programs, such as a local food bank’s Thanksgiving drive and the Salvation Army Angel Tree gift drive, remains a highlight for many of our team members.
